29 graduate from 2011 Tractor and Machinery Safety Course

MONROE - Twenty-nine youth completed the 2011 Green County Tractor and Machinery Safety Course in various locations in Green County from March 22-April 25.

Youth completed 24 hours of classroom and hands-on instruction in various aspects of tractor and machinery safety to comply with Wisconsin Act 455.

Act 455 states that "No person may direct or permit a child under age 16 years to operate a farm tractor/self-propelled implement of husbandry on the highway unless the child has been certified as successfully completing a tractor and machinery operation safety course."

Participants included: Trevor Aebly, South Wayne, Anthony Bender, Juda, Nathan Bergum, Monticello, Trevor Blum, Monroe, Cody Christian, Blanchardville, Mitchell Dammen, Argyle, Abert Everson, Belleville, Joel Faith, Monroe, Taylor Gerlach, Brodhead, Traiten Gorr, Monroe, Ben Horn, Brooklyn, Casey Kehoe, Monroe, Matt and Nick Maveus, Monroe, Mitch Millner, Monroe, Alan Montgomery, Belleville, Caleb and Colin Novak, Browntown, Ethan Pfeuti, Albany, Zakkary Roesslein, Monticello, Zach Roth, Brodhead, Trevor Signer, Monroe, Spencer Sowatske, Brodhead, John Steiner, Monroe, Noah Steinmann, Brodhead, Skyler Stuckey, Juda, Mia Wahl, Argyle, Ben and Flora Wenger, Brodhead.

Sessions included instruction for operating tractors and farm machinery, including animal, fire, skid steer and lawn and garden safety.

A special addition to the program included a presentation by the Juda Fire Department on farm accidents, tractor rollovers and extrications and first aid.

An added bonus this year included first aid kits for each participant - sponsored by Green County Ag Chest. Youth passed a written and driving test to complete the program.
