 MONROE — The 18th annual Green County Master Showman Competition was held at the 2024 Green County Fair on Saturday, July 20. This event brings in the top senior (grades 10 and above) showmen in the dairy, beef, sheep, swine, goats, rabbits and poultry departments at the fair. Two youth from dairy, beef, sheep, swine and goats are invited to participate, and one youth is invited from the rabbit and poultry divisions.

During the event, the 12 participants show all the animal species exhibited at the fair in a round-robin format. Youth are judged by qualified showmanship judges and members of the agriculture industry from the surrounding communities. After six rotations of the event are completed, the scores are tallied and the member with the highest score earns the title of Green County Fair Master Showman.

2024 Master Showman participants were: 

Daniel Dunphy (Albany FFA), Ellie Eichelkraut (New Glarus FFA), Reese Eichelkraut (New Glarus FFA), Emma Hendrickson (New Glarus FFA), Gabe Klahn (Oregon FFA), Kamdyn Kolb (Pecatonica FFA), Jerzie Lerch (Juda FFA), Mallory Schmelzer (Spring Grove Honest Workers), Reaghan Schmelzer (Spring Grove Honest Workers), Wyatt Steiner (Monroe FFA), Briliey Swedlund (Juda FFA), and Autumn Wolfe (Next Generation).

The 2024 Green County Fair Master Showman was awarded to Gabe Klahn (Oregon FFA). Jerzie Lerch (Juda FFA) was named Reserve Master Showman. Jeff Ditzenberger, was Master of Ceremonies for the event.

Showmanship judges included: Swine — Shelby Veum, Stoughton; Rabbits — Hailey Hendrickson, Cambria; Beef — Madison Katzenberger, Fitchburg; Goats — Samantha Holmstrom, Argyle; Sheep — Jackie Rosenbush, Stevens Point; Dairy — Mara Shelley, Deerfield; Poultry — Bella Ruosch, Janesville. 

The overall winner received a plaque and embroidered item of their choice and reserve received a medallion and a plaque. The rest of the contestants received a medallion and all contestants got a T-shirt for being a qualifier in the event. Extension Green County coordinated the 2024 Green County Fair Master Showman Competition with sponsorship from Compeer Financial, Lake Ridge bank, Colony Brands, Inc, Klitzman Seed LLC and the Green County Farm Bureau.
