MONROE - Joan Kamholz is the founder and president of a nonprofit cancer organization called Justice for a Cure, which has a business address in Madison. The Dawn Lengel Memorial Cancer Support Group was established and named after a friend who died from cancer in 2015 and is sponsoring two free local cancer support sessions: one for all cancer survivors and one for all cancer caregivers. Both groups are open to all cancer survivors and caregivers 16 years old and over.

The first support session for all cancer survivors will be from 6 to 7 p.m. May 9 at the Green County EMS building, 1800 12th St., Monroe, and will be held the second Wednesday of each month.

The first session for caregivers will be from 6 to 7 p.m. May 30 and will meet the last Wednesday of each month.

The JFC mission is to get law enforcement working with the community to educate, raise awareness, support cancer research and cancer support programs, support caregivers and honor those who have died.

Both are made possible by donors in the Green County area and in partnership with Avenues Counseling, Megan Schilt and the Green County Emergency Medical Services.

The support group's mission statement is, "To connect people touched by cancer, while offering emotional support and healing as well as coping skills, to strengthen their well-being."
