CLARNO - The Staver St. Peter's United Methodist Church is hosting an ice cream social from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 24.

The church, located on a hill on County P west of Clarno, began 143 years ago. Rev. Paul Gregersen is the minister of both the Clarno Zion and Staver St. Peter's Church.

Staver Church was known for its Fourth of July celebrations, which were held in the grove across the road from the church. In later years, when that was discontinued, the church held an ice cream social as a fundraiser. This year, the congregation is sponsoring an ice cream social with the proceeds going towards continued work at the church.

Prices are $7.50 for adults and $5 for children age 9 and under. The menu includes BBQ sandwich and hot dogs; potato salad and chips; baked beans; applesauce; fruit pie; ice cream and assorted toppings; and beverages.
