11 medical students get scholarships

MONROE - Dr. George Breadon, president of the Green County Medical Society, recently presented 11 $500 scholarships from the Gavin Breadon Memorial Scholarship Fund to Green County medical students. Those receiving scholarships are:

Cory Ganshert, son of Dr. Tom and Jodi Ganshert, Monroe: In May he graduated with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Des Moines College of Osteopathic Medicine. He will begin a residency in internal medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

Kelsey Duxtad-Schmidt, daughter of Robert and Jennifer Duxstad, Monroe: In May she graduated with a Doctor of Medicine from UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health. She will begin a family medicine residency at UW-Madison Hospitals.

Gavin Stormont, son of Dr. Dan and Dr. Annette Stormont, Monroe: In May he graduated with a Doctor of Medicine at UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health. He will begin his residency in urology at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Nebraska.

John Frey, son of Dr. John and Cathy Frey, Monroe: In May he graduated with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He will begin a residency in internal medicine at the University of Kansas, Kansas City.

Priti Rana, daughter of Dr. Kishor and Bhanumati (Sula) Rana, Monroe: In May she graduated with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Midwestern University's Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. She will begin a residency in family medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin, St. Luke Hospital in Milwaukee.

Cullen Buchanan, son of Dr. David and Julie Buchanan, Monroe: He is a 2009 graduate of Appleton High School and of UW-Madison in 2013 with a degree in kinesiology. He just completed his junior year at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

Makenzie Bruce, daughter of James and Veronica Bruce, Monroe: She is a 2010 graduate of Monroe High School and of UW-Madison in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in biology and history. She has just completed her sophomore year at UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.

Emma Fenner, daughter of DuWayne Fenner and Myra Schink, Monticello: She is a 2009 graduate of Monticello High School and of UW-Madison in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. She has just completed her sophomore year at UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.

Michael Turek, son of Dr. James and Susan Turek, formerly of Monroe: He is a 2011 graduate of MHS and of the University of Iowa in 2015 with a degree in biochemistry. He has completed his sophomore year at UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.

Audrey Netzel, daughter of Dr. Michael and Jackie Netzel, Monroe: She is a 2012 graduate of Edgewood High School, Madison, and of Creighton College, Omaha, Nebraska, in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and biology. She just completed her freshman year at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska.

Courtney Pfeuti, daughter of Jeffrey and Cathy Pfeuti, Albany: She is a 2011 graduate of Albany High School and of UW-Madison in 2015 with a degree in molecular biology. She just completed her freshman year at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health.

Other local Green County students receiving Doctor of Medicine degrees include:

• Joseph Ganshert, son of Dr. Tom and Jodi Ganshert, Monroe: He graduated in 2017 with a Doctor of Medicine from UW-Madison and will begin a residency in general surgery at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.

• Gabriel Rodriguez, son of Dr. Julio and Marisa Rodriguez, Brodhead: He graduated in 2017 with a Doctor of Medicine from UW-Madison and will begin a residency in anesthesiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
