Given the past grant application experience of some members of the board of directors of the proposed World Cheese Discovery Center, one is curious why it took the work - and expense - of the Monroe City Council to determine the ground rules of the process. Examining a proposal to support the grant, the council said last week that it determined some 80 percent of project financing must be in place prior to applying for the grant, and that 501c3 tax exempt status is required before any grant dispersal can be made.
One would hope that WCDC board scrutinizes for completeness and accuracy any statements or information it uses in future fundraising and support solicitations.
