Looking Back at 2023

This past year has been a busy year for the state legislature. We have made significant achievements in passing a balanced state budget, which has facilitated increased funding for our schools and infrastructure and funding to municipalities through shared revenue. I am also proud of the work to include several items in this year’s state budget to support our healthcare sector.

This included adding a provision to the budget that expanded the Graduate Medical Education (GME) program.  This program allows recent medical school graduates the opportunity to continue their training and practice medicine in Wisconsin. As well as increasing funding for free and charitable clinics. These clinics provide crucial medical care to uninsured and underinsured Wisconsin residents, ensuring that people from all walks of life have access to quality and affordable healthcare.

I am proud of being able to help make sure that our municipalities see increases in shared revenue included in this year’s budget. This has been an important issue since I was elected, and I am glad to see the joint finance committee and the Legislature include this in the year’s biennial state budget.

Additionally, I am glad to see bills I co-authored be signed into law by Governor Evers. Expanding the Safe Haven law to allow for baby boxes where a parent can anonymously drop them off, requiring one-half credit of personal financial literacy for high school graduation, and the driver education grand program.

Looking back in the district, it was great to enjoy community events, be part of groundbreaking ceremonies, tour vital businesses in the district, as well as having the opportunity to recognize individuals from across the district for their amazing work. Meeting and having conversations with people from all over the district is truly one of the most enjoyable parts of representing SW Wisconsin. I am honored to be your representative and look forward to continuing to work on your behalf.
