Huber: Time to celebrate yearly accomplishments
ben huber

“Remember to celebrate your wins, no matter how small. Sometimes the small win’s lead to big ones.”

That quote is a piece of advice given to me by a former general manager when I asked him what made him and his teams successful. He also told me that you often get the most accomplished through the busiest people. Busy people are committed to a project or task because they want to be, and the key is helping allocate their time and remove roadblocks to success. Our Green County Farm Bureau board is full of busy people, yet all make time for our board and for our members. I cannot thank them enough for their time and dedication to our organization and its members.

Over the past six years I have had the privilege of working with many members of Green County Farm Bureau, and am especially proud of these last two years leading the board. We set some aggressive goals two years ago to be more community oriented and focused on agricultural education and youth in ag support. No matter the project, if it falls into the categories of community support, ag education, or youth in ag we do all we can to be involved. We hold ourselves to high standards because we want to show the community and our membership that when they support us, we give back to agriculture.

The Green County Farm Bureau annual meeting is coming up on Sept. 6, and there is no better place for us to showcase our accomplishments to the community and our membership. The annual meeting is hosted at the Peppercorn Banquet and Catering ball room, with doors open at 6:30. We have dinner and a social hour followed by a short program and business meeting where each committee talks about their activities and accomplishments throughout the prior year. We then conclude the evening with a live auction of several items ranging from Cubs-Brewers tickets to custom cut steel signs, with several other items in between.

The main event of the evening will be each committee member talking about their activities from the prior year. We have had excellent involvement in ag policy events across the state, as well as, an opportunity to partner with Jacob’s SWAG Foundation to pack farmer thank you bags at generosity days. Our promotion and education committee is very active with events like the essay contest for elementary students, coordinating the family farm adventure tent at cheese days and hosting our rural safety day for fifth grade students. Whether it be at the state level or locally here in Green County, your county farm bureau has had a tremendous year. Thank you to all involved and for supporting agriculture here in Green County.

If you’re not sure what Farm Bureau is or what we are about, join us on Sept. 6 and help support the organization and see if Farm Bureau is a group that you would like to join. You can RSVP for the annual meeting by Aug. 30 to gcfbrsvp@gmail.com or by calling Mike Hutchinson’s Rural Insurance office at 608-325-4052. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the evening go directly toward funding programs and activities that continue to support our ag community, educate consumers about agriculture, and support our local youth in ag programs.

Please join us and help Green County Farm Bureau celebrate our wins and have some fun.
