Choosing to give of your time to make a difference is something that Jill Remy’s years of service demonstrates to the Belleville Community and the School District of Belleville. Her work on the School Board since 2015 stands as a strong model for community service and has bolstered the efforts of the educational community she has supported. She has also served during a time when there have been many adjustments — like a pandemic to make everything continue to happen for the good of the kids in the Belleville Community. It hasn’t been an easy time to serve, but she persisted for the greater good.

Jill Remy was first elected to the Belleville Board of Education in 2015 to a one-year term. She has since been re-elected to the board three times — in 2016, 2019, and 2022. At the time of her resignation, she was the second longest tenured board member. This demonstrates her unwavering commitment to not only choosing to serve, but to use the knowledge gained along the way to mentor and lead.

Jill served as the school board president for one year in 2019-20. She has served on a number of committees over her nine years on the board including Communications, Compensation/Negotiations, and Policy. She has served on the Wildcat Wall of Fame Committee since its inception in 2017. In all capacities on these various committees, Jill has taken the tasks at hand and put in the work to make the experience meaningful and rewarding for her teammates — both school employees and fellow board members.

Remy was on the board for both of the successful 2016 capital referendum and 2022 recurring operating referendum. During her time on the board, the district has continually “exceeded expectations” on the state accountability report card. Her work during this time was part of a team effort to make Belleville the best it could be and represents what happens when the focus is making education a priority for one’s community.

District Administrator Nate Perry remarked, “As a parent, Jill has always supported the district. She had two sons graduate from Belleville High School in her time on the board. As a board member, Jill was prepared, student-focused, and extremely proud when Belleville received some type of recognition or award. She looked out for what was best for the district as a whole.”

The School District of Belleville is grateful for Jill, for her years of service to the school board, and for her dedication in her various roles during the time she has served. Her work and length of service provides a wonderful testament to what can be accomplished in taking a leadership role in one’s community. When you have kids you want the best for their education, but to serve on a school board means taking a greater step and doing the best you can for everyone’s kids.
