Franke: Civic responsibility — opportunities to get involved
Craig Franke
Craig Franke

Good day Monroe,

My name is Craig Franke and I currently serve as an elected official in Monroe WI as an Alderperson. Never in my wildest imagination would I have thought of serving as an elected nonpartisan official and I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to represent the citizens and businesses of Monroe. Today I want to take a moment to address civic responsibility. Each of us, as citizens, has responsibilities to actively participate in our community! Generally speaking, we accomplish this responsibility by voting, obeying laws, engaging in social participation, and even by taking active participation in public life for the common good!

I moved to the great city of Monroe in 2023 from the suburbs of Lake County IL, and I have thoroughly enjoyed the transition to life in Monroe. As a new resident, the glaring county community theme that sets us apart, is simply, “We champion community collaboration and volunteerism.” We have a strong community of individuals who emulate a passion for their civic responsibility. Furthermore, I am confident that there are others within our community who are eager to get involved. Be encouraged friends, our momentum for continued growth and prosperity amongst businesses and residents has never been greater!

Ways to get involved:

1. Volunteer your time with one of the community organizations that you may be passionate about! Check out impactgreencounty.org which is a new central resource hub for volunteer opportunities within Green County.

2. Attend City Council meetings at city hall to learn more about the City of Monroe operations. Elected officials enjoy hearing feedback from residents on a variety projects, issues, and opportunities.

3. Donate to various community projects or Non Profit Organizations. Serve as a volunteer within those NPO’s and then potentially serve as a board member within that organization.

4. The Golden Rule — Do unto others as you would have them done unto you! Civic responsibility for all of us requires a commitment to take care of each other while also seeing others as greater than ourselves.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or need assistance with anything!
