Time to stand up against Obama's changes

President Obama ran his campaign under a slogan of "change." Certainly, the people who voted for him were expecting economic change, but how many were ready for the social changes the president has planned? Are these changes really what the American people wanted and voted for?

The Freedom of Choice Act, or FOCA, will overturn any and all laws regarding the restriction of abortion. Here is a partial list of the laws that would be overturned by this new legislation:

• State abortion reporting requirements in all 50 states

• 44 state laws concerning parental involvement

• 46 state conscience-protection laws for individual health care providers

• 27 state conscience protection laws for institutions

This bill also gives the government permission to use taxpayer dollars to pay for the abortions.

President Obama also supports the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. This act would not allow employers to discriminate against applicants because of sexual orientation and gender identity. For example, if a homosexual walked into a church and asked for employment and the church refused to hire him, the church can be sued for discrimination. No longer will religious organizations be exempt from employment discrimination.

President Obama also has repealed one of the first executive orders given by Former President George W. Bush - the Mexico City Policy. The Mexico City Policy was first introduced under the Reagan administration and was expanded to ensure no State Department funding went to the pro-abortion groups overseas. Now that President Obama's executive order has wiped out the Mexico City Policy, American tax dollars are funding abortions overseas.

President Obama also supports embryonic stem cell research. In 2001, President Bush put in place a policy against funding embryonic stem cell research with tax dollars. That policy has been struck down by President Obama, who says he will increase funding in this area.

There have been no advancements in embryonic stem cell research in more than 30 years. However, using adult stem cells, there have been more than 80 documented medical cures, proving embryonic stem cell research is unnecessary. Embryonic stem cell research is done by killing living embryos, while adult stem cell research does not kill life.

With such "changes" in the wings, patriots will have to step up and be prepared to do our duty. As John Quincy Adams said, "Duty is ours, results are God's."
