Peter Fox: Politicians need to think, not 'fight'

As the presidential primary season concludes and the fall national and state legislative campaigns rev up, I want the candidates to quit "fighting" for me.

I'd rather they pledge to use their intelligence to find the best solutions to the challenges facing us in Wisconsin and across the country. I prefer they would commit to use their ears to carefully listen to all points of view before making up their minds, and not rely on fragmentary information or partisan dogma. They might demonstrate their vision by seeking good, strategic public policy rather than glomming onto quick-fix, short-run advantages.

Finally, let them prove their reasoning abilities by making their cases for election in clear and convincing logic rather than innuendo and name-calling.

The last thing we need is more fighting - look where it has gotten us.
