From John Baumann

GCHS Capital Campaign Co-Chairman

To the editor,

Last fall when we launched the capital campaign to fund the building of a new shelter for the Green County Humane Society, we felt it was important to run an inclusive campaign that would invite everyone in our community to participate. To us, it didn't matter if a donation came in the form of a large gift, a small check or a jar full of pennies, we wanted everyone - young and old, big and small - to have a chance to share in the experience.

One of the hallmarks of this campaign has been the very high level of "yes" responses we've received from those of you that we've asked for support. To date, more than 500 of you have stepped forward to support the campaign. Understandably, there are many people in the community who have an interest in donating, but are just waiting to be asked. While we've reached out to many of you during our pledge drive, we know there are many of you that we've missed.

Today, we'd like to extend our "ask" to those of you in our community that we have not been able to reach directly. Please consider this letter and the GCHS pledge request inserted in today's newspaper as an invitation to join our campaign. Our campaign is now entering its homestretch and your contribution can help put us over the top. Currently, we have pledges totaling $750,000. Now with an offer from Colony Brands, Inc. to match the next $100,000 of pledges on a dollar-per-dollar (or penny-for-penny) basis, we are within striking distance of the $950,000 we need to build and fully outfit the shelter.

We are fortunate to live in a community that is small enough that each of us can see the impact of our donations. You are going to be very proud of this shelter and how it represents the best of Green County.

And please remember, no matter how large or small, every donation counts.
