I'd like to express to this community what a privilege it has been to serve on the Board of Directors of Monroe Clinic for eight years. My service ended May 28 and I leave with mixed feelings - joy at what we've accomplished, great hope for the future but sadness at no longer being an integral part of an outstanding organization.
When I first started working in Monroe, I was amazed that a community this size had a multi-specialty clinical practice and hospital like Monroe Clinic. After eight years on the board, I can confidently state that an excellent health care provider will only continue to get better.
We are all committed to the mission "to achieve the highest standards in health care." Monroe Clinic's quality results, available at www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov, are exceptional when compared with any hospital in the region.
Our mission begins with the Congregation of St. Agnes. I've been blessed to work with this spiritual, mission-driven and, yes, fun-loving group of women.
It continues with a Board of Directors, many of us community members. It's a challenge to serve on any board these days, but health care is especially complex. I'm proud of the quality of our work and the dedication of my fellow volunteers.
On so many occasions, I'm heartened at the care provided by our clinical staff and all supporting employees. At a recent celebration recognizing employee longevity, I was reminded how fortunate we are to keep loyal, experienced employees.
That loyalty is one sign of the leadership of Mike Sanders and his executive team. Leadership permeates an organization in a positive way when employees recognize integrity and a true commitment to our mission. I'm honored to have worked with Mike and his staff and respect their talent and dedication.
Commitment to an organization is evident when you're not an employee and you refer to "we", "us", "our". It will be a difficult habit to break.
