If last week's presidential primary is any indication of the direction of the November general election, we should all be excited about the future of our country. As the city administrator overseeing last week's primary, and as a former head election judge, I was very heartened by what I observed last Tuesday.
The City of Monroe recorded one of the highest voter turnouts for a primary in recent history. More than 2,700 residents cast ballots in the primary. What was even more amazing to me was the high number of young people who registered and voted. With all we hear of voter apathy, and lack of involvement among younger persons in this country, what I observed last Tuesday was awesome. It is very obvious to me that we are experiencing a wave of change, that has heavy involvement from the future of our city, and country; young voters. This is exciting stuff.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the city staff who made sure that the election operations went without a problem. These include City Clerk Carol Stamm, Administrative Assistant Janelle Bittner, Head Maintenance Director Richard Pulver, Recreation Department staff and all the elections judges. But I would like to especially thank all those who registered and voted last Tuesday. Let's keep the momentum going, your city and country need your continued involvement in the process through the November general election, and beyond. A positive future for our community, and country depend on it.
