To the Editor:
In a recent letter to the editor, Dan Knox falsely concludes that Christians opposed to murdering the unborn are assuming the power of God and that women have free will to murder their children with God’s approval and no ugly consequences. His opinion contradicts the Bible, which is God’s instruction book for all humans. Below explains the truth on this topic found in God’s inerrant Holy Word (2 Timothy 3:16).
1. Human life begins at conception. Upon conception, the only difference between a human embryo, a fetus, a baby, a child, or an adult is maturity. Biologists have great difficulty stating anywhere along this timeline that the life involved is not human. This is the truth of God’s creation.
“So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them” (Genesis 1:27).
2. God knows us even before we are conceived. “13 For Thou hast possessed my reins: Thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are Thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. 15 My substance was not hid from Thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in Thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them” (Psalm 139:13-16).
3. God has a purpose for each life. “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee...” (Jeremiah 1:5).
4. Children are a gift from God. “3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward” (Psalm 127:3).
5. God has commanded us not to kill. “Thou shalt not kill” (Exodus 20:13).
6. God instituted government and gave rulers the charge to be just. “The God of Israel said … He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God” (2 Samuel 23:3). Jesus said, “If ye love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15).
Summary. Christians and governments are to follow God’s Holy Word. Human life begins at conception. Killing a pre-born human life is murder, unjust, and evil. What crime have the innocent unborn committed that warrants a death sentence?
