To the Editor:
On a frigid January evening, at least 150 members of the Monroe community joined together to march around the Downtown Square in protest of recent misconduct by I.C.E. agents in Minneapolis. After several laps in the bitter cold and before heading home, everyone came together for some closing remarks by organizers. It was during this time that a truly welcome announcement was made that food from Tacos Martinez was being provided to participants, courtesy of the restaurant and at least one other member of the community.
People lined up with smiles of their faces to pick out tacos or sides of beans and rice, and the warmth of good food and fellowship filled the air. As we continue to face mounting social and legal offenses by our government, it is all the more important to keep this sense of community alive, and it was so appreciated that some of our neighbors cared so much. Thank you!
