Monroe
To the Editor:
After the turmoil of the last 7 months, the question before residents in the Monroe School District has become a simple one. Do we want to construct a new high school where the current one stands, or do we want to build a new facility on the B&S property on the east side of town? Given time, financial and legal constraints these are the only options and I believe the B&S proposal is the best for our community. Say what you will about the motivations of the property owners proposing the land swap, the eventual outcome will be mutually beneficial and have tremendous upside for the growth of Monroe. Our kids will get a new facility on a campus that will entice new families to the district while encouraging development of the current site which will add significant dollars to the district’s tax base. Know that this is the culmination of a 5-year process that has evolved in response to public engagement at every step along the way. I continue to hear many unfounded rumors and read suggestions that are legally or statutorily impossible. I encourage all district residents to read the recent flyer that you received in the mail, watch recent school board meetings posted online, attend the upcoming informational meeting and vote in the meeting of the electors on July 17th. Let’s move Monroe forward!
