To the Editor:
The circus continues on 8 1/2 Street & 30th Avenue. I noticed some new school zone signs have been placed in the area, but not in the actual school zone where they should be. Someone told me that thte city could place cameras in various locations around here to record speeding vehicles without an actual police squad car sitting around here. I have heard that some cities/towns have already done this. Just get a picture of the actual offending vehicle and sent them a citation. Seems simple enough.
I also don’t appreciate people dropping children off & picking up children at Northside Elementary School using my driveway approach here on 30th Avenue. My driveway approach isn’t a parking area. I had previously mentioned that the school district should have a good parking lot on the Westside of the school building for drop offs and pick ups of students rather than choking up 30th Avenue and 8 1/2 Street. Bottomline, it “isn’t a joy” to watch the public abuse your driveway approach for their personal use. There is only one fire hydrant at the end of 30th Ave. & the 8 1/2 Street intersection and this area is usually used as a pick up/drop off area. ??? Something is wrong here. Also, the City pays workers to paint “yellow paint” on curbing to signify no parking. Many parents do not adhere to these areas either. Why not? As I started this editorial out, this area is just a traffic circus.
I had also mentioned in several past editorials the idea of portable bump strips in this school zone area and more 3 or 4 way stop signs implemented in the neighborhood. This would help to slow traffic up in this area. Nothing has been implemented to date. In closing, if you want to vote yes on the school referendum, you can always pay my increasing taxes on a fixed income.
