Phillips: The impact of overturning Roe v. Wade
Letter To The Editor

From Donna Phillips

Monroe

To the Editor:

What happens if Roe vs. Wade is overturned?

We hear about Roe vs. Wade being overturned. This will not end abortion! We will just return to “unsafe” abortions! Unwanted pregnancies won’t stop! Can you imagine the mental anguish after being raped or impregnated by your father or male relative? Or from an unwanted pregnancy following consensual intercourse? The woman lives with this for her lifetime, but the man who impregnated her pays no consequences for creating this baby, sometimes never knowing this new life was created. Is that fair? Roe vs. Wade at least gives the woman a safe way to make a decision.

I personally do not approve of abortion. It’s an extremely hard decision, deciding if you can live with ending this life or live with the anguish that this man or act has done to your life. Another option is adoption! I chose to put a baby up for adoption 55 years ago. I refused a “kitchen abortion”! My doctor referred me to Booth Memorial Hospital, which no longer exists. It was a Salvation Army home for pregnant women which provided housing, counseling, and delivery of the baby. So, if people who are “pro-life” want babies to live, will they provide help for women? It’s easy to say “give it up for adoption”, but there’s nine months of mental anguish and living arrangements, etc. Are you ready to provide a place for these women?

Pro-life means providing for all types of life, not only birth! What about food, care and shelter? Some pro-life people in Congress won’t back bills like Build Back Better which would make life better for children and the climate they will live in! Why is it a right to choose not to get Covid vaccines which keep people from unnecessary deaths? Saving lives is pro-life! Pro-life is from conception to death! Make your voice heard when you Vote! Who provides continued pro-life, not just pro-birth?
