Malzer: We need to replace Marklein
letter to the editor stock

From Ron Malzer

Albany

To the Editor:

Our elected officeholders in Wisconsin have a duty to hear the people’s concerns, and to tell us where they stand. Senator Howard Marklein has FAILED in this responsibility. He comes to listening sessions, but dodges the questions.

He has opposed legislation very necessary for a one person/one vote democracy. The League of Women voters and the Fair Maps Coalition have presented a proposal for an independent commission to draw fair maps; Marklein has FAILED to sign on.

Marklein has FAILED to denounce the Republican legislature’s scheme to write into our state Constitution the power to overturn any agency rule it doesn’t like. We depend on agencies to keep large corporations from breaking the rules, and to keep us all safe.

Marklein has also worked to alter our state Constitution to prevent public institutions from seeking a diverse workforce. Biased hiring is a serious roadblock for success in today’s workplace,

And in a third strike against our state Constitution, Marklein has worked to take taxpayer dollars away from public schools, where they belong, and to give them to non-accountable private schools.

We need to replace Senator Howard Marklein with someone who faithfully represents the people of the 17th Senatorial District.
