Adam Krebs (the sports editor) did a fine job of writing about maritime history on the Great Lakes. I couldn’t improve on any of it. I just add that as a coastguardsman I watched the Edmund Fitzgerald being built in Detroit on the River Rouge. The ship has ties to Wisconsin as she was owned by Northwest Mutual Life Insurance of Milwaukee. Lore of the Lakes is a huge topic and Mr. Krebs column did justice to it.
