To the editor:
It’s the holiday season and the festive and colorful Christmas decorations on the Square and its off streets were put there by city crews climbing ladder after ladder to create an amazing atmosphere for people to enjoy on the Square. The Main Street Design Committee wants to thank these city crews who put up all these decorations every year.
Julie Buchanan and volunteers from the Monroe Woman’s Club filled the flower pots on the sidewalks with the evergreen boughs. This year the dirt in the pots was frozen, making their job difficult and time consuming. Not to be daunted, they stayed until all pots were filled and ready. The boughs came from the Oxenreider family. The Design Committee appreciates the help from all and wants to give them a huge thank you for a job well done.
There is close collaboration between the Design Committee and The Monroe Fund, which provides the financial support for the Christmas decorations. So, a big thank you is extended from the Design Committee to The Monroe Fund for this monetary gift.
The purpose of this project, which was helped by so many, is to create a more beautiful and interesting downtown for all the shoppers and visitors to enjoy during this Christmas season.
