Karls: Choose life
Letter To The Editor

From Elaine Karls

To the Editor:

January 22, 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision which legalized abortion throughout our entire country. That decision was reversed in the Dobbs decision by the same Court in 2022. Laws regarding abortion may now be made by each individual state.

Since the Dobbs decision, much has been said in news outlets and state legislatures about the issue of the abortion. There have been discussions about women’s rights, unplanned pregnancies, and bodily autonomy to name a few.

While some of these issues certainly present problems, it is important to be aware of just what induced abortion is. Basically, abortion attacks a human being, almost always ending his or her life. Although that life is usually small and developing, it is still a human life. To understand that reality helps us to lovingly find other solutions to difficult situations. Organizations exist to give support and resources to those in need. In addition to preserving the baby’s life, these alternate solutions help to protect the mother’s physical and emotional health as well. Let us choose to preserve life.
