Hoenecke: Seek what’s best for the children and community, not revenge
Letter To The Editor

From Andrea Hoenecke

Monroe

To the Editor:

I am writing in support of the B&S site for the new Monroe High School.  It is my opinion that those who are against the land acquisition at the B&S site are seeking revenge upon the school board and administration rather that doing what’s best for the children in the Monroe community. What’s best for the children of the school district is building the new high school on the new B&S site. If the land acquisition vote fails, those who will be affected the most are children in the School District of Monroe. If the land vote fails and the new high school is built at the current high school site, children, like my daughter who will attend Abraham Lincoln this year, will be learning in a hazardous and disruptive construction zone. Not building on the B&S site is a poor use of taxpayer money.

●  A yes vote to the B&S site is less costly than building on the current site.

●  A yes vote to the B&S site allows for students to continue learning in a safer school environment during the building of the new high school.

●  A no vote to the new site does not reverse the referendum nor does it decrease property taxes or refund any money to taxpayers.

●  A no vote to the new site means that a new high school will still be built, but on the current school site. Building on the current site costs more money. No part of the current high school can be reused if a new school were to be built on the current site.

I urge the people of the School District of Monroe to ‘Vote YES for B&S’ on Monday, July 17th at 6:30 pm at Monroe High School. This is a meeting of electors where those in attendance vote on the matter at hand.
