Heise: Vote no on amendments
Letter To The Editor

From Patt Heise

Williams Bay

To the Editor:

In the past several years, there were more than a dozen times the Wisconsin Assembly was called by the Governor to Madison to go into session to take care of important business, including how to handle a $4B surplus. Leader Robin Voss gaveled in and out in just seconds each time and sent them all home: I believe 13 seconds was the record. Is this how you want an emergency handled? In an emergency, people and businesses need the money immediately so recovery can begin.

Emergency federal funds to states always flow from one administration (the President) to another administration (a Governor) so they can be disbursed immediately. These amendments are nothing more than a power grab, and we citizens could pay the price if — God forbid — the next emergency is a big one, unlike the weak tornadoes that tore through the area six weeks ago. Vote no on the two amendments for the sake of all of us.
