Foster: In Loving Memory of Amari Kelly; Gone Too Soon — Remembered Always
Amari Kelley

From Chasity Foster

Monroe

To the Editor:

On August 17, 2024, our beloved Amari Kelley lost his life at just 14 years old due to a tragic and preventable act of negligence involving unsecured firearms. Amari was a bright, funny, deeply loving child who deserved protection, care, and a future. Instead, we are left with heartbreak, questions, and a fight for justice.

Amari was more than a headline — he was a son, a friend, a gamer, a sensitive soul. He battled depression and emotional pain, particularly after changes in his family environment left him feeling displaced and unseen. Despite that, he always tried to smile through it. But the weight of being misunderstood and unprotected became too much.

Today, I, his mother, Chasity Foster, am still fighting in court for justice — not only to hold those responsible accountable but to raise awareness about negligent firearm storage and the mental health struggles so many teens face in silence.

As we approach the one-year anniversary of Amari’s passing, we ask our community, both in Wisconsin and Louisiana, to remember his name, demand accountability, and help us make sure no other child suffers the way Amari did.

We welcome any support, information, or public response that may help this fight. This is not just about one child — it’s about changing a system that failed him.
