Dodgeville
To the Editor:
The first rural No Kings Rally held in June attracted over 500 people from this region to oppose President Trump’s continuing authoritarian actions and power grabs. This isn’t about Democrats vs Republicans — it’s about democracy vs authoritarianism. The nationwide NO KINGS action on October 18 is shaping up to be larger than the first event in June which attracted millions of people from all over the world. While it’s hard to know how large our rally will be this month, but we hope you will cover this event and help us raise up rural voices!
The Dodgeville protest is rain or shine. Join us from 10 a.m. to noon for a peaceful, nonviolent event on this nationwide day of protest. We will gather behind the Iowa County Courthouse and march down Iowa Street to 105 W. Fountain Street. There we will hear music and speakers advocating for democracy.
The corruption and lawlessness of the Trump administration is threatening our fundamental rights, especially the right to free speech, the right to vote and the right to due process. This is bigger than political disagreement. The administration has defied our courts, deported American citizens, disappeared people off the streets, and slashed our services — all while orchestrating a massive giveaway to their billionaire allies. Enough is enough. For anyone who thinks they’ve gone too far, this movement is for you. No Kings is about defending the ideals we fought for. This country doesn’t belong to strongmen. It belongs to the people.
We’re excited to join with other groups organizing the No Kings peaceful protests across the country including ACLU, American Federation of Teachers, Common Defense, 50501, Human Rights Campaign, Indivisible, League of Conservation Voters, MoveOn, National Nurses United, Public Citizen, SEIU, among others. A full list of partners can be seen at www.nokings.org/partners.
For a full list of participating cities, event details, and spokespeople available for interviews, visit www.NoKings.org or contact media@nokings.org.
All No Kings events adhere to a shared commitment to nonviolent protest and community safety. Organizers are trained in de-escalation and are working closely with local partners to ensure peaceful and powerful actions nationwide.
