To the Editor:
As a student at Monroe High School, I want to encourage the community to support all youth programs at MHS. Many non-athletic programs are often overlooked by the community. Our wonderful Forensics program won sectionals for the first time in a decade last year. Our theater program not only puts on amazing performances but also competed at state two years in a row and won every medal possible in the One Act Competition. Our musical programs perform entertaining concerts free of charge multiple times a year.
All the students in these programs put in just as much work as the students that are in sports, but they often receive much lower community support. Many of these programs are underfunded as people don’t attend their performances or donate towards needed equipment and supplies. If you find that you are free on a night that they perform, please at least consider showing up to lend your support as an audience member. Who knows how much you might enjoy it!
The theater program is performing Little Mermaid on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of March. I know they would be thrilled to see you in the audience!
