To the Editor:
Spring Election Tuesday, April 7th I have recently learned that historically, only 20% of eligible voters do so in Spring non-partisan elections. It is in these elections that school boards, city and town government positions, county board supervisors, and state supreme court justices are chosen, as well as important referendums. These are people and issues that affect our everyday lives and pocketbooks, and yet there has been little interest in exercising our right and privilege of voting. It is also known that some who do vote do so without due diligence as to the positions the candidates hold.
I belong to a group known as evangelical Christians. Our percentage of voters in the Spring elections is 7%. That is NOT a testimony of good stewardship. If you fall in the 93% who have not voted, please examine the validity of why you have not.
I write the above to strongly urge the citizens of Green County to rise to their civic obligation by engaging in discovery about the candidates for these important positions and the issues presented in referendums, and then VOTE on April 7th.
