To the Editor:
I get about town on bicycle most of the time when I have to go somewhere and I try to be safe when I do so but the unfortunate truth is that apparently my fellow citizens in cars don’t feel the same obligation to me. People change lanes or turn without signaling, or otherwise disregard the rules of the road. This afternoon I was heading west on 10th street towards 17th ave (on the way to the library) and right ahead of me is a car heading right at me. Thing is I was within 2 blocks off of the square and it’s a one way street there. I was going the right way the car wasn’t. The street is clearly marked as one way but apparently the driver couldn’t be bothered to pay attention. This is the 2nd time this summer that has happened. Last time I was going east on 11th street (approaching the square) and a car decided to turn right on 16th ave and come up the street towards me. I shouldn’t have to play dodge em with cars when I am going the right way. And frankly I resent cars expecting me to know where they are going (apparently I am supposed to be telepathic I guess) and deciding they don’t need to use the little invention known as a turn signal.
