Becker: Senator Ron Johnson is out of touch with current child care issues
Letter To The Editor

From Tom Becker

Monroe

To the Editor:

Dear Senator Johnson:

Recently we invited you to visit our local family daycare in Monroe, WI and after several weeks of hearing nothing this is the response I received.

“Dear Tom:

Thank you for reaching out and considering Senator Ron Johnson to participate in a meeting. Upon a review of your request, your request does not suggest a meeting is necessary at this time.  We have received input from many in your field.”

So Senator Johnson, as childcare’s all throughout the state discuss their future’s and many have or will be closing at the end of August, NO Meeting is necessary. I unequivocally disagree with you, your thinking that Mom’s should stay home and raise the children or the grandparents can watch them is totally out of touch.  In fact while at a family function recently I was talking with a family member with a child in a different state, all they are hearing is that people do not want to have children because the cost is not affordable or they are unable to find a provider and how the politicians just want to line their pockets.

Senator Johnson your thinking falls right in line with my current Wisconsin State Senator of District 17, Senator Marklein who has told those in his district that grandparents can care for their grandchildren and or women should just stay home.

In Wisconsin we have lost a minimum of 450 family childcares since 2021 due to the rising cost and lack of investment and low wages.
