Appalled by the silence
Letter To The Editor

From Lee D. Van Landuyt

Hillsboro

To the Editor:

Some remember the years following WWII. The United States rose to prominence as a world leader. Industries were well regulated, everyone was fairly taxed, strong unions contributed to an unrivaled middle class, human rights were signed into law, and the GI bill was passed. The GI Bill was instrumental in my own higher educational degrees and success in life.

Those years are long gone. The entire nation is now on atrocity overload! We are bombarded daily with news that yet another outrageous thing has happened. The most recent being the killings of innocent victims of the ICE raids in Minnesota. We suffer from an unconstitutional presidential overreach with the blessing of a MAGA Congress and Supreme court that do nothing to prevent him from absorbing power that does not belong to him.

As a military veteran and concerned citizen, I am appalled by the silence of our Congress and Senate Republicans. They are actively allowing our nation to become a dictatorship controlled by DJT, big business, and the ultra-rich. In the news recently, it has been suggested that November elections may be cancelled. I am very concerned and will honor my oath to defend and protect our Constitution. Will you?
