To the editor:
Recently, an editorial was published which provoked a great deal of consternation to myself and to many of my fellow vets. In that letter, Ms. Kelty made the statement the "most respectful way to express one's grievances against racism and racial profiling by police officers is to take a knee" whilst the flag is exhibited during our National Anthem. That is what we call back in Iowa, "hog slop."
As a veteran with 21 years of service in the Navy and the Army Guard, and also the son of a World War II vet, and great-grandson of an officer who fought in the Civil War to free black Americans, I find her statements mis-guided, disrespectful, impious and repugnant to those of us who have served these United States honorably in military service!
I agree there has been a good deal of hyperbole, but only from the pro-abortion, pro-socialist types who supported Hillary and worshipped Obama!
I am grateful to have a commander-in-chief who along with Mike Pence, exposed these deadbeats for what they really are. And yes it was worth every penny of that $245,000, if for no other reason than to get these flag bashers out in the open where we can see their true colors!
This mindset has evolved from the loose living of the hippies through the educational system we have today, to the current government handout mentality we see in our communities and especially in Soglin's little Cuba (Madison).
These are the kind of people who spit on us either symbolically or literally when coming back home during Vietnam! By the way, many of us did not approve of that war, but we sucked it up, shut our mouths and did our duty! I remember one person among the many fallen there, and he was my ROTC instructor, and who I considered a friend and true patriot.
You never heard that man, a black American, complaining about American injustices, police brutality and racial profiling. Do we have a few bad police? I suppose we do. But how often do we hear about them putting their lives on the line for citizens in harm's way? As for me, I will back the badge!
You might take your gripes to the politicians rather than be irreverent to our flag and countrymen who gave their all Ms. Kelty! You might also ask them why they allowed the removal of pledge of allegiance and the 10 commandments from our schools!
