Letter to the Editor: Wright will support public schools

To the editor:

For me, the start of school was always a special time - new school supplies, kids meeting their teachers, and the start of fall - a time of excitement as we looked towards the future. Unfortunately, I look towards the future of this school year with serious concern. Funding for our K-12 system was cut by $1,442,972 in the Monroe school district - dollars that are critical towards making sure that every student in our system has access to a good education.

Meanwhile, Todd Novak, who's been labeled as the "School Voucher Champion," has voted to allocate $750 million of our taxpayer dollars to unaccountable private schools. This broken system of funneling taxpayer dollars to schools that don't have to be held to the same standards as our public system is unfair, and frankly, unacceptable.

As a former educator in the Monroe school district, I believe that all students deserve a representative who will fight for their right to have a good education through our public school system. The person who will do that job with experience and sincerity is Jeff Wright. His work in our 51st Assembly District as a teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent is a clear demonstration of his commitment to our Wisconsin values, especially when it comes to education. I am proud to support Jeff and hope that you will join me in electing him to the State Assembly in November.
