To the editor:
I recently met Ernie Wittwer, Democratic candidate for the State Senate, at a small gathering in Monroe. Mr. Wittwer is a farm kid, now retirement age. He spent most of his career working as budget director and program management director at the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. He is expert in the infrastructure needs of the state and sensible means to meet and finance them. From all outward appearance, he is not an ideologue. Having completed a successful career, he is apparently not intent on forging a flaming path to political prominence. Instead, he is a sensible guy who knows what he's talking about and is willing to reach across the aisle and talk. He would be a very worthy successor to Sen. Dale Schulz. I hope you will give him your vote in the Democratic primary on Aug. 12 and again in the fall.
