To the editor:
"It is time to realize that what we are seeing from Donald Trump is an attack on our democracy," Senator Jeff Flake said recently. He stood in the Senate and he rebuked the president for his attacks on the truth.
To his colleagues he said, "No longer can we turn a blind eye or a deaf ear to Trump's assaults on our institutions." Senator Flake then compared Trump's attacks on the news media to the rhetoric of the late Soviet dictator, Joseph Stalin, who called the press "the enemy of the people." Even Kruschev thought it was a terrible statement to make and would not allow it spoken in Russia. I think Senator Flake would agree because he said the following words: "Without truth ... our democracy will not last." And I agree with him. Just living in Wisconsin and the horrible autocratic government we have shows us what money and lies can do. And it only took eight years. But we are living so much with Trump's words. As a result, we have normalized living in an unnormal situation created by Trump. He tells a lie or two, or three every day. One of his favorite sayings is "Fake News." This is a lie but if a person in authority repeats a lie time and time and time again, it can become believable.
Let's take his most recent vulgar words "____hole" to describe countries in Africa. He said it in the morning at a meeting of about a dozen people and by afternoon he denied that he said it. That is not unusual for President Trump. If anyone should be attacked for not telling the truth, it is President Trump. He lives on a daily diet of lies.
A liar like Trump is truly unfit for the presidency and dangerously so. Dangerous because he has said that he would like to be like Putin of Russia. Trump has the money. Now he wants the power like Putin has. Fortunately, Robert Mueller is closing in and talking with Steve Bannon. I think Bannon knows an impeachable offense committed by Trump.
We have power too - our vote. In November 2018, put Democrats in. This is happening all across our nation, so join in! Democrats will impeach Trump. And a Democrat governor will restore democracy to Wisconsin.
And I think Jeff Flake should run for president!
