Voter suppression in this election played a frightening role. Fourteen states had restrictive new voting laws for the first time in a presidential election. The laws included cuts to early voting, photo ID requirements for voters and people came to vote only to find there were hindrances to voter registration.
Voting locations were reduced about 43 percent, thus causing the long lines for voters. One scary number was that nationwide there were 868 fewer sites to vote - again causing long lines of voters.
According to the Associated Press, "It has been estimated that as many as 300,000 Wisconsin voters did not have the required ID." The elderly and the young were especially In need of help about having an ID to vote. Many had questions about the law. For the estimated 300,000 Wisconsin voters who did not have the ID, to me they were cheated by the 2010 voter suppression laws. This is one more step to of the end of democracy in Wisconsin. First came gerrymandering; now voter suppression. When are Wisconsinites going to wake up? The Republicans are bankrolled by the Koch brothers and other billionaires who want political power.
According to Jane Mayer's fabulous book titled "Dark Money" she reveals the "Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right." In her book she writes that "the billionaires formed a new generation of philanthropists bent on using billions of dollars from their private foundations to change the direction of American politics. They argued for limited government by lowering drastically personal and corporate taxes, minimal social services for the needy and much less oversight." Kiss regulations goodbye.
If they prevail, paychecks will remain low, OSHA will disappear and workers will continue to work in dangerous labor. For example, the Koch brothers' business is fossil fuels and their workers' labor in fuels that are filled with mercury. This endangers the human brain and the reproductive and nervous systems. Men would die at the age of 55.
One worker said, "Koch just runs over these people and then discards them as trash."
One last thought from the book. "Koch Industries "repeatedly lied... to avoid penalties.'"
Wake up Wisconsin or you will be working in dangerous jobs, paid low money and considered trash.
