To the editor:

VOTE YES, STRONG SCHOOLS = STRONG COMMUNITIES

I am writing in support of a "YES" vote for the upcoming April 3rd referendum for Black Hawk Schools. $500,000 for 5 years = $100,000 per year for 5 years. My husband, Carl, and I are proud to have called the BH community our home for all of our lives. Our children will be third generation graduates from Black Hawk, and we are very proud of this. We all need to start really thinking on this current referendum, as the last three have failed.

The reality of the referendum at this point is this:

Will our taxes go up? Yes, on a house that is worth $100,000, you will pay $55.34 more per year, or less than $5 per month.

If we choose again to say no to this referendum, and this fails, our school leaders will again have very tough decisions in front of them.

Let us remember ... these children will have to go somewhere for education, and we would then have to pay taxes to those schools. I can assure you, your taxes will go up more than $55 per year.

We have parents outside this district choosing to open enroll their children into this school district, and we are so blessed to know some of these children and their families. I feel our quality of school and our standards of education are a large factor in these families choosing to bring their children here.

I do realize every day in our community and our lives we are faced with financial choices and conflicts.

The last two months Carl and I have been in a position where we have seen the love and compassion people have for this community and school, and we are so grateful for this. We need to continue to put our school on a solid course for our children and grandchildren's future.

Please join us in voting "YES" April 3rd.
