To the editor:
Having attended their meetings lately, I am aware that the Land and Conservation Committee of the Green County Board has grave concerns about the design for manure storage at the proposed Tuls Pinnacle Dairy.
Their fears are about the potential for pollution of surface and ground water and for that reason they have not yet granted Tuls a permit. I urge supervisors on the Land and Water Committee to stand firm in protecting the citizens of Green County from the water and well pollution concerns experienced by other counties in Wisconsin where large factory farms have multiplied. Due to budget cuts, the Department of Natural Resources will not be enforcing regulations regarding the spreading of manure. We are depending on our local elected representatives to protect us and our water.
