Letter to the editor: Surplus not necessarily a good thing

From Cathy Goray

Monroe

To the editor:

I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about how we are paying for Walker's budget surplus of more than $900 million. Who is really paying the bitter price?

1. Our children (with underfunded schools)

2. Their teachers (with slashes to pay and benefits)

3. Our friends (with cuts to food stamps and health care)

4. Our workers (who are looking desperately for jobs that don't exist)

5. Our infrastructure (with crumbling roads)

6. The list goes on and on

I would rather have a $0 budget surplus, with a budget that takes care of the people of Wisconsin. The $900 million surplus speaks to all of the things we are not doing. This is not a figure of which I am proud.
