From Brittany Moser
Oshkosh Monroe High School Senior Class President, Class of 1995
To the editor:
Nostalgia, tradition and pride are a few of the words that run through my mind as I follow the Monroe High School football team as they continue their current winning season. Not only because it has me reminiscing of the days when I was privileged enough to be a part of teams that made its own runs in the state tennis and basketball tournaments, but also because I am reminded of the educational opportunities that were afforded me when I was a student at Monroe High School.
I am confident that it is because of the strong educational base I received as a member of the MHS graduating class of 1995, the faculty and staff that invested their time and energy to student learning, and the strong support of my family that I am a high school teacher handing down the educational values I learned as a student in the Monroe School District to the next generation. For this reason, I understand and can relate to the importance of the impending school referendum in Monroe.
I have the unique opportunity to write from the perspective of a teacher whose school district recently passed a referendum of its own just two years ago. I have witnessed first-hand the kind of positive difference passing the referendum has had on our students and their education. Our community rallied behind the students, the school district, and the community and declared that the value of an investment in the students is ultimately an investment in the future of the community. Bottom line is that's what a school district's referendum is about, the students, their community, and the future of both. Making an investment in the kids and increased student learning is always worth the price in which the community will reap the rewards not only now, but in the future.
Thank you to all of my teachers that I had in the Monroe School District for taking an investment in me as a student-athlete. I can only hope that one of my students has been similarly affected.
The pride of a Cheesemaker is a tradition and foundation built on strong educational values, which creates opportunities for success in the future.
Vote yes on Nov. 8 and make an investment in the future, the students, and the value of a Monroe education.
