Letter to the editor: Stand up for democracy, vote yes on April 5

Monroe

To the editor:

Our Constitution is a contract with our fellow citizens. It is not a contract with corporations, who are not even mentioned in the Constitution. The corporate lawyers in this country have weaseled their way into our Constitution, contending that corporations are people, and money is speech.

April 5 will be one of the few days that you can truly do something important for your country. You can make your vote count to strike a blow for true democracy, of the people, by the people and for the people, not of the corporations, by the corporations, and for the corporations.

Vote yes, in Monroe, Brodhead, Town of York and Town of Clarno, to take back the power of your vote, from the moneyed special interests who currently flood our political system, buying politicians and blasting you with negative advertisements on TV, Radio, and in the newspapers.

This essentially unregulated and unreported financial pressure has ruined our political system, minimizing the importance of your vote.

Tell the politicians that "You're mad as hell and won't take it anymore." Add your municipality to a list of over 60 communities in Wisconsin who have stood up and said yes, with an average approval rate of 76 percent, when asked if they think only individuals are people, and only speech is free speech. When enough people stand up in Green County and Wisconsin, we will be able to add our state to the 16 states that have already passed legislation to overturn the power unleashed by the 2010 Supreme Court Ruling in Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission.

If your community has not asked you to stand up for democracy in Green County, contact Green County United to Amend, to find out how to get your voice heard.
