Letter to the editor: Maybe it really is the end of times

To the editor:

With Halloween just around the corner, the article I woke up to this morning written by Ann Coulter seemed, indeed, timely. Because the article titled "Democrats to America: We own the government" was nothing more than the rantings of an obviously crazy and evil crone. A person doesn't even have to read it unless they're in the mood to nauseate themselves. I only mention it because it's evidence of what I'm about to say next. The article got me thinking: "Ya know, Michele Bachmann just might be right." There's a strong possibility that it is "the end of days" - for the Tea Party and right-wing extremists willing to destroy anything in the path of their ideology - including the country they pretend to cherish. The "end of days" would make perfect sense, I suppose, based on their twisted interpretations of the Bible. Suddenly, I understand why these right-wingers live in a state of constant fear and paranoia. They should be terrified of their own behavior and of reaping what they have sown. Because based on the teaching of Jesus - and the God whom they supposedly worship - based strictly upon their own deeds - it makes sense that God might be about to "smite" them for all of their acts of hatred and intolerance toward others, their constant bearings of false witness, their immoral greed and corruption, and all the pain they've inflicted on the less fortunate, the sick, the elderly and the innocent in the name of their brand of "patriotism." At least, the God I know and believe in would smite them. Maybe it is the "end of days" - for them. Maybe God really does work in mysterious ways. For the sake of my beloved country, I pray it is.
