Director, Monroe Chamber of Commerce

To the editor:

I love Lucille Ball's quote: "If you want something done, ask a busy person to do it. The more things you do, the more you can do."

If you want a successful Monroe school board member, vote for a busy (and experienced) leader, Nikki Matley, on Tuesday, April 4.

Nikki is just the busy person we need on the Monroe School Board as they bring on a new superintendent. I know this because Nikki was central in the hiring and transition process for the Green County Development Corporation and my position at the Monroe Chamber of Commerce.

Nikki's knowledge of our community, and her ability to quickly connect me with people I should know, jump-started my role at the Chamber. She provided a connection to the community that could have taken years to build without her help. On the Chamber board, her leadership has helped us grow a stronger organization.

Does Nikki know everyone in Monroe? Sometimes I think she does. But in all seriousness, Nikki is a person who puts in the extra time to get to know people and their needs. If she doesn't know someone, she's not shy about starting up a conversation.

Nikki could add to Lucy's quote: "The more people you know, the more you can do."

Nikki is so passionate about our community; she spends a great deal of her time and abundant energy making Monroe a better place. She has proven she has a clear vision for our community and our local organizations, and yet is very respectful and appreciative of diverse views. Not only does she have a wonderful strength of connecting people, she also is talented at connecting ideas.

Nikki understands that having a strong school district is critical to the economic health of Monroe. High-quality schools increase property values, support local businesses and serve as catalysts for revitalization.

At the Monroe Chamber, we realize it is so important to have a strong relationship between our businesses and our schools. Workforce talent is recruited to Monroe because of our schools, and companies grow and thrive in Monroe because of our talented workforce.

I believe Nikki Matley is uniquely qualified to actively encourage our businesses to engage with schools.

For these many reasons, I believe Nikki Matley will be an effective member of the Monroe school board, and I encourage you to support her.
