Letter to the editor: Marklein's voting record says it all

To the editor:

When Howard Marklein was running for the senate seat being vacated by Dale Schultz, he commented that he wanted to represent us just like Sen. Schultz. Mr. Marklein's voting record to date has shown very little interest in representing the residents of his district. He has voted to allow public school money to be diverted to voucher/private school, he voted for the right-to-work laws, and now he just voted to allow legislation that would have severely restricted the public's right to the disclosure of records relating to any of our elected officials. All of these votes have not been in the best interest of our district and cause us to doubt the true reasons for their formation.

Mr. Marklein states he voted to what he thought was in the best interest of our district. How can taking money from our already struggling southwest Wisconsin public school be in our best interest? How can right to work legislation help any of our hard working citizens in the long run? How can the restriction of records disclosure be anything but an attack on an open and transparent government? Why all the secrecy and what is the hidden agenda?

Mr. Marklein's voting record has been lock and step with Scott Walker and those supporting his type of leadership and their views about public schools, unions, the middle class and open government. Mr. Marklein needs to be reminded that he was elected to represent us - the citizens of the 17th District and not necessarily the governor or definitely not lobbyists or out of state boosters. His voting record speaks as to his priorities and they are not us.

Mr. Marklein can attend all the county fairs and photo ops he wants but the true picture of him and his representation of the 17th district can be found in his voting record. Mr. Marklein is no Dale Schultz in any way or form.

Everyone needs to stay informed and follow how our elected officials are representing us. We need to communicate with them and remind them who they were elected to represent. It is time for all our elected officials to work for us and if not they need to replace at the next election.
