To the editor:

Thank you for the insightful reporting on the bullying epidemic in our public schools. It is a new age in which students are in need of specifically targeted help and assistance.

After reading your coverage of the Monroe Middle School personnel situation, and whether there should be a assistant principal, I am pained to learn of the sad state of Monroe schools.

The revolving door of personnel in this critical position for our children's safety is alarming.

I am not sure I like the idea of reading instructors moonlighting as intervention specialists.

A friend of mine was bullied relentlessly at Monroe (then Junior High School). She almost killed herself because of the bullying and the non-response of school staff members. Our children deserve qualified and focused professionals looking out for them.

Bullying is an epidemic, even here in small town America. Student safety must be maintained.
