Green Cares Food Pantry board member, Monroe

To the editor:

Sending a blossom to Riecher's Meat Processing of South Wayne for their donation to Green Cares Food Pantry. Riecher's Meat Processing is locally owned and operated and has donated over 900 pounds of venison meat to the pantry over the last year. While Riecher's Meat Processing is located in Lafayette County, they reached out to Green Cares Food Pantry (located in Monticello) to see how they could help and if our pantry and patrons would benefit from donations of venison. Organizations like Riecher's Meat Processing and its donation are vital to the success of Green Cares Food Pantry. The pantry is a resource for hungry low-income or homeless families and was established to assist in providing the basic needs by ensuring all people have access to nutritional food, especially our youth and elderly; to promote quality of life for all; and to serve as an advocate for low-income citizens and promote community engagement. In 2017, Green Cares Food Pantry provided food to 555 unduplicated households, which included 1,744 unduplicated individuals. Over 40 percent of these individuals were children or people over 70.The pantry serves families from all over Green County and the surrounding area, including Albany, Blanchardville, Brodhead, Browntown, Monroe, Monticello and New Glarus. The pantry is open each month at the following times: Tuesday (first and third), 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Tuesday (all other), 4 to 7 p.m.; Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.; or by appointment. Again, thank you to Riecher's Meat Processing and their support.
