To the editor:
The Green County Fair Board gives a huge blossom to Susan Konapacki, flea market coordinator, all the volunteers, vendors and attendees for making the first Green County "Pickers" Antique and Flea Market a huge success. There were more than 90 vendors and 2,100 attendees for the two-day event on June 8 and 9. There were many wonderful comments from both the vendors and buyers. The money raised through the gate receipts and vendor rentals will be used to help maintain the buildings at the fairgrounds which will be a direct benefit to the youth and adult exhibitors at the fair.
A special thank you goes to Johnson Tractor for supplying the two ATV machines for use during the flea market as well as to the Green County Beef Producers, Green County Ag Chest, Clarno 4-H Club, Young Americans 4-H Club, the Green County 4-H Exchange, and the Freeport Kiwanis for serving as food vendors for the event. A thank you also goes to The Monroe Times for the article prior to the flea market to make the community aware of this fundraising event.
Our next "Pickers" flea market is scheduled for Sept. 7 and 8.
We must, however, add a huge barb to the person or persons who took over half of the flowers donated by the Monroe FFA which were being used for the flower boxes for display at the flea market, Dairy Day, Balloon Rally and the upcoming Green County Fair. It is unfortunate that this was a negative for such a positive and successful event.
