To the editor:
As a concerned parent of two children in the Monroe school system, I've been wondering about an event next week that will affect all of us, whether you have children or not - and will affect all of our futures in the community.
I've been wondering how we can best equip our kids to survive in a world changing every day with new challenges and obstacles we never imagined. Every year, these same kids become a part of our community. They can - and they will - influence decisions that shape your future and mine in Monroe.
We can all wonder about it. We can take a huge gamble, toss the dice, hope for the best, and then we can live with the results good or bad. Or we can do something positive that will make a huge difference for them and for all of us.
Next week Tuesday, April 7, we can vote in the school board election.
The people we put in place on the school board will influence decisions about the strength of our schools, the quality of our teachers, and the very future of what our kids learn.
I'm not willing to gamble with my kids. I'm going to vote for Amy Bazley, Mary Berger, and Bob Erb.
They're real people like you and I, parents with children in our schools, folks who put in hard days of work like any of us. And they have nearly 20 solid years of school board experience among them.
They believe strong schools are a cornerstone of our community foundation. They believe in recruiting great staff, and they believe in all of us being accountable for results in the classrooms. They believe in helping students develop abilities to think critically, work together, and build skills to achieve success in a complex world. And they believe in financial responsibility, so we can make the best choices to find our best options.
They're not hiding anything. They're always available. They listen - to students, to teachers, to us. And then they make choices in the best interests of our kids. Which is ultimately in the best interest of you, and me, and our community.
I'm not taking any risks. I'm voting for Amy Bazley, Mary Berger, and Bob Erb on Tuesday, April 7. And for the sake of your kids and mine, and our community's future, I hope you will, too.
